Introduction

Imperative Logistics, operating a 400,000-square-foot distribution centre in Laredo, Texas, faced a critical challenge in maintaining high levels of inventory accuracy across a complex warehouse layout with over 26,000 pallet locations across six levels of racking. After testing and outgrowing drone-based systems, Imperative Logistics partnered with Dexory to find a solution built for the scale, complexity and safety demands of modern logistics.

The challenge

With over 26,000 pallet locations across six levels of racking, cycle counting was time-consuming and labour-intensive, requiring workers to use scissor lifts for manual audits - introducing both inefficiency and safety risks. Drone-based systems had already been trialled but presented substantial limitations around battery life and inconsistent barcode reading. The inability to perform frequent cycle counts meant real-time insights were out of reach, compromising operational responsiveness and customer service speed.

“We tried drone systems, but these presented substantial limitations when it came to battery life and had inconsistencies when it came to reading barcodes”, says Rolando Valdes, VP of IT at Imperative Logistics.  “We needed a solution that would provide us with data accuracy, and the Dexory robots provide us with great accuracy for our cycle counts. We are able to have our cycle counts done daily, within a matter of hours, and have rich, actionable insights at our disposal in real-time.”

The solution

Imperative Logistics deployed DexoryView, combining autonomous mobile robots with an AI-driven digital twin platform designed for complex warehouse environments. The robots scan up to 40 feet in height, removing the need for human-operated scissor lifts entirely, with consistently accurate barcode reading regardless of floor conditions. Daily cycle counts that previously took days are now completed in a matter of hours, providing a comprehensive, always-current view of inventory and enabling fast, informed operational decisions.
