Wie Dexory den Betrieb bei Menzies Aviation mit KI und Automatisierung transformiert
December 6, 2022

Introduction
Menzies Aviation, an international aviation services business operating at over 250 airports across 58 countries, partnered with Dexory to automate stock processes at its largest dedicated warehouse at Heathrow - a 7,000 square metre facility handling 10,000 tonnes of cargo monthly across 10 airlines. With under-reported volumes, mis-declarations and misplaced assets impacting profitability, Menzies needed a reliable solution to gain real-time warehouse intelligence across its operations.
“It was important for us to use the technology to add real-time value to the operation. Mimi is delivering this, as on a daily basis we are scanning over 500 locations and achieving high accuracy levels in a fraction of the time it has historically taken to do it manually”. Rory Fidler, Vice President Cargo Technology

The challenge
The Heathrow cargo facility faced two primary operational challenges. Human error in manual processes led to under-reported volumes and mis-declarations of air cargo, resulting in incorrect storage charges, reduced loading efficiency and impacted profitability. Additionally, the availability and accurate tracking of aircraft space, freight capacity and facility space required far greater operational context - including the daily identification of lost, misplaced and non-compliant assets to recover revenue.
The solution
Dexory deployed its autonomous robot, Mimi, and AI platform to scan and photographically capture cargo across the facility, delivering highly accurate real-time ground truth without any changes to the existing warehouse setup. Mimi runs nightly audits for inventory checking and generates exception reports highlighting unable-to-locate pallets (UTLs), misplaced goods and rack occupancy levels. Mandatory bond checks - previously labour-intensive and performed once or twice a week - are now carried out through automated perpetual checks, with full inventory checks reduced from a minimum of eight hours per week to under 15 minutes daily.

The benefit

70% reduction in errors
Greater real-time clarity on inbound and outbound loads reduced errors by 70% from the outset.

30+ hours per week saved
Moving from manual to automated perpetual checks saved over 30 hours per week across the team.

£200k of value recovered
UTLs reduced to zero and 40 goods per day identified as staying longer than needed, recovering significant revenue.
