La vie chez Dexory

Meet the team: Zoë Cavell, General Counsel

October 12, 2026

Could you please tell us a bit about yourself, your background and your role at Dexory:

I’m General Counsel here at Dexory, looking after legal, compliance and risk. I qualified as a solicitor back in 2005, originally working in commercial property and then transitioning into general commercial work when I moved in house. I’ve also done other jobs - legal ops and training, property management, teaching and working as a buyer for an airport retailer.

‍

How has your career evolved since you started?

Your career inevitably evolves over a 20+ year period. I spend a lot less time on law and research and a lot more time on strategy execution and project management now than I used to.

‍

What do you find most fulfilling about working at Dexory?

I’ve always worked in services so I love working with a company that also produces a product. It adds a whole new dimension to my work and a load of new challenges! I also love the team at Dexory and the diversity that working for a full stack scale up brings.

‍

If you could travel back in time and give your younger self one piece of career advice, what would it be?

Good enough is good enough.

‍

If your job had a mascot, what would it be?

I think a hamster in a wheel! The trick is to just keep going…

‍

What inspired you to get into your field of work?

LA Law (Suits for the 80s for those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about!) Of course, it’s nothing like that in reality!

‍

What’s a skill you have that’s completely unrelated to your job?

I play the double bass - not much use as a lawyer!

‍

What’s a misconception people have about your role or industry?

That we’re blockers not enablers. But to be fair, my industry doesn’t help itself with that perception!

‍

What’s something about Dexory’s culture that surprised you when you joined?

It wasn’t a surprise as such because everyone was super friendly when I came to interview but it’s quite unique to work in an environment which is so driven but where people are also so nice!

‍

What advice would you give to someone considering a job like yours?

Do you like people? Because being a lawyer is about 80% customer service/client management and 20% law, whether you’re in house or not.

‍

What’s one item on your desk that always sparks conversation?

These days, it’s more about what’s behind your desk… The piano in my home office always starts something but I also move around my office every few months and then there’s something new to talk about!
